La Llacuna is a large flat region located high up in the La Safor mountains and here is a huge national park with endless vast country side full of wildlife, there are fresh water mountain springs and magnificent country side with fantastic scenery which is a pure delight to explore on foot, on animal or on wheels, the river Serpis flows through the valley below along the old railway line now very popular with local hikers and cyclists. In Llacuna there is a popular Casa Rural which becomes busy with locals and visitors at the weekends and in the summer months. Car is essential to go to the town of Villalonga which is a 3 mile drive down the hillside, this is a good but twisty road and boasts wide open views over the whole of La Safor below, overflowing with orange groves surrounding the many towns and villages and to the sea and long coastline.
Villalonga is a busy small town which provides all amenities you could wish for including a good selection of bar / restaurants, beautiful Casa Rural / Hotel with fantastic restaurant, large supermarket, a variety of smaller shops including chemists, butchers, bakers, fruit & veg, clothes etc., nursery, primary and secondary schools, large new health centre, banks, sports grounds, new open air public swimming pool, street market twice weekly selling fresh produce, clothes and hardware this friendly town provides absolutely everything for daily living.
