This is a

minute drive inland through the vast orange groves from the main town
of Gandia. This is a small working town with lots employment and

first are not apparent and including large new supermarket, many small
shops, banks, large new health clinic, schools, twice weekly street
market selling locally grown produce, bar / restaurants etc. The town
is well known for its fresh spring mountain drinking water pumped
through numerous fountains on the streets. Locals come from
neighboring villages to collect their supply from one of the many
fonts found within the town. It is also an area popular with outdoor
enthusiasts, hikers, walkers, rock climbers, cyclists, off roaders,
etc. as it is located at the foot of the magnificent Safor mountain
range and on the edge of the vast national park which houses the river
Serpis.
The main market town
of La Safor is Gandia, here one can find all amenities including
shopping centres, supermarkets, hypermarkets, bars, restaurants,
banks, schools & university, district general hospital, sports
complexes, large weekly market etc. Gandia also boasts an award
winning golden sandy beach (no. 1 resort for Spanish tourism) with
Club Nautico and Marina. Many families from inland towns especially
Madrid come here for the summer months to escape the heat of the
interior. The remaining months of the year the beaches (of which
there are many) are very quiet and ideal for water sports such as wind
/ kite surfing, canoeing, sailing, water / jet skiing, horse riding or
just long walks along the waters edge in the winter sunshine.
The Oliva Nova Golf
Complex with 18 hole course designed by Seve Ballesteros is a twenty
minute drive from Villalonga and boasts a beautiful virgin sand dune
beach setting. The hotel facilities here are open to the public
and offer superb restaurants with swimming pools and health spa plus a
small commercial centre. The club house overlooks the course and is a
very popular 19th hole.
